Also, the activity served to call on support to offender rehabilitation and social harmony.

During the activity, the visiting youngsters and young inmates chatted as they made cookies together under the guidance of the bread and cake workshop instructor. The young inmates with experience in pastry production through vocational training also shared the secrets to delicious cookies to the participants. With this year marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of our country, the youngsters specially put flowers, green grasses and the number “70” on the cookies that meant to represent the vitality and prosperity of the Motherland as well as the brand-new life that await inmates provided they make good use of the opportunities given to them and continue with the efforts to learn useful skills. The baking session ended with success as the youngsters put the cookies into the oven together.

The young visitors also toured Coloane Prison to learn about its facilities and operation and inmates’ living conditions and vocational training. An interactive session was also arranged so that inmates could share personal experience that hopefully cautioned the youngsters against breaking the law and losing personal freedom. The young participants of the activity all mentioned how the activity had helped them understand inmates’ determination of self-reform and efforts to learn; they went on to encourage the inmates to continue acquiring new knowledge and skills in preparation for the return to society.

Correctional Services Bureau will, through arranging various activities with youth organizations, continue to commit itself to constructing a youth exchange platform and promoting youth engagement in social affairs. The Bureau also hopes that youngsters can play an effective role in raising public awareness and support for inmates and juvenile delinquents, promoting the development of correctional services and creating more favorable conditions for social rehabilitation.
