Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau Visits Correctional Services Bureau (2019-07-29)

10 members of the YoungMen’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Macau, including its Secretary-General,Ms. Kuan Sok Leng, and Vice Secretary-General, Ms. Sam Wai I, visited theCorrectional Services Bureau, exchanging with Director Cheng Fong Meng, DeputyDirector Loi Kam Wan, and other members of the management of the Bureau,reviewing together the effectiveness of the Home outside the Prison Schemelaunched last year and exploring its future development.

As mentioned by DirectorCheng Fong Meng in the meeting, the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macauhas long been an important partner of the Bureau in facilitating the socialreintegration of inmates; it continuously helps inmates establish positivethinking and boost their resilience, in addition to providing them with thesocial resources and support networks necessary for their return to society. Alsoat the meeting, Secretary-General Kuan Sok Leng introduced the activities andcounseling services YMCA has been organizing for inmates over the years, beforesharing the number of applications to join the Home outside the Prison Schemeand the related cases, and giving a review of its efficacy so far since itsinception. Both parties then exchanged views on the further development of theScheme.

Subsequently, the gueststoured the visit rooms and cells of Coloane Prison, and the dormitories,training area and education building for the juveniles held in the YouthCorrectional Institution.

During their tour of ourfacilities, the visitors watched the juvenile delinquents make latte art at thefood and beverage training room. All of the visitors had praises for the coffeeprepared by the juveniles, and encouraged them to continue with the efforts tolearn and equip themselves for a smoother reintegration into society in thefuture.
