Swearing-in of Deputy Director of Correctional Services Bureau Chio Song Un (2020-08-03)

The Correctional Services Bureau held the swearing-inceremony ofits Deputy Director on 3 August. In the sight of Director Cheng Fong Meng and the management of the Correctional Services Bureau, Mr. Chio Song Un assumed office as Deputy Director of the Bureau.

In his speech during the ceremony, Director Cheng Fong Meng stressed thelong and arduous course of correctional services and expressed theexpectations for Deputy Director Chio to utilize his professional knowledge and experiences, passion andloyaltyon his new postamid the enormous challengesin correctionspresented by thenovel coronavirus pandemic, to work synergistically with the Bureau’s leadership, management and staff to tackle the challenges, properly enforcingdisease prevention measuresand ensuringthe safety and stability of correctional facilities, to fully implement the various policy objectives and work of the security sectorwhile adhering tothe governance philosophy of “Unity and Efforts, Change and Innovation” of the new SAR Government, as well as to further optimize internal management and teambuilding, effectively fulfill our responsibilities and actively promote the development of correctional services.

In the swearing-inceremony, Deputy Director Chio Song Un thanked the Secretary for Security and the higher authorities for the guidance and support over the years, vowed to proactively assist our Director in important endeavors such as optimizing correctional administration, following up on the new prison construction project, improving the prison guards’ career system and promoting the “smart corrections” initiative, and expressed his hope for the whole-hearted cooperation among all our staff members to upgrade the quality of correctional administration and serviceswhile upholding the spirit of “Integrity and High Efficiency, Professionalism and Competence”.

Deputy Director Chio Song Un obtained his Bachelor of Police Science from the Academy of Public Security Forces of Macao, Bachelor of Law from Huaqiao University, and Master of Public Administration from Peking University,as well ascompleted the 6th Program for Command and Leadership. Mr. Chio joined the Public Security Police Force in 1997, and while at the Force, he served the following posts in chronological order: Head of 2nd Police Commissioner Division, Macao Police Department; Head of 3rd Police Commissioner Division, Macao Police Department;Head of 1st Police Commissioner Division,Macao Police Department; Head of Public Relations Division, Operations Department; Acting Head of Operations Department; Acting Commander of Police Tactical Unit; Commander of Macao Police Department; as well as Head of Operations Planning Department. According to the Dispatch of the Secretary for Security, Mr. Chio Song Un has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Correctional Services Bureau for a fixed term of one year, effective from 1 August 2020.
