Correctional Services Bureau Is Highly Concerned with the Suspected Breach of the Law by Its Staff Member and Will Fully Cooperate with the Investigation (2021-02-03)

The Correctional Services Bureau is highly concerned with and deeply regrets a prison guard’s suspected involvement in the “crime of abuse of power”. The case was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office on 2 February.

Regarding the incident, the Correctional Services Bureau will cooperate fully with the investigation conducted by the law enforcement agency. An internal disciplinary investigation procedure has also been launched so that the perpetrator will be held disciplinarily accountable in accordance with the law. The Bureau has notified all its subordinate entities or subsidiary units to step up personnel supervision, as well as required its staff to pay attention to personal conduct and moral integrity and always uphold law and order. The relevant work guidelines will be reviewed and optimized to avoid recurrence of similar incidents.

The Correctional Services Bureau reiterates that it attaches great importance to the conduct, integrity and ethics of its staff, and that any proven breach of the law or the regulations will be handled lawfully and not be tolerated.
