Training for Prison Guards

Initial Training Program

Every newly recruited prison guard cadet must attend the initial training program lasting eight to 12 months. The program is divided into the basic training stage, the professional training stage and the internship stage. The training covered in the program include physical fitness, foot drill, abseiling, self-defense, shooting, riot control, pepper spray usage, legal knowledge and team cooperation.
 
On-the-job Training
In order to continuously enhance the quality of its prison guards, the Bureau periodically holds training courses targeted at personnel of different ranks and positions, in the respects including but not limited to shooting, pressure point control tactics, response measure for riots, conflict management, crisis management, legal knowledge, language skills and psychological well-being.
 
Exchange and Training
The Correctional Services Bureau periodically sends staff members abroad or to neighboring regions to attend meetings related to correctional affairs or for exchange and training, in order to learn from experiences of different regions.
