The Correctional Services Bureau held on 3 January 2024 a swearing-in ceremony for a new member of its management, which saw Head of Information and Communications Division Fan Sao Wai take the oath of office administered by Director Cheng Fong Meng in the sight of Deputy Director Chio Song Un and other management personnel of the Bureau.

 

At the ceremony, Director Cheng Fong Meng said that the Correctional Services Bureau had been actively cooperating with the development of the e-governance of the SAR Government, resolutely and thoroughly implementing the security sector’s policy objective of “strengthening the police with science and technology”, continuously enforcing the “smart policing” initiative and elevating its operational efficiency and the overall effectiveness of its correctional work. Director Cheng expressed his expectations for Division Head Fan to be loyal, responsible and fearless of challenges on his new post as he guides his subordinates in effectively carrying out their responsibilities, guaranteeing the operational management and cybersecurity of information and communications systems, proactively researching and building the “smart prison” initiative and the e-governance policy, enhancing the scientific management standards of the Bureau and pushing forward the modernization of correctional services. Director Cheng then highlighted the complex and ever-changing social situations in the present-day world that have resulted in the rapidly emerging challenges and difficulties in correctional work and thus urged the entire staff to continue to uphold the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and the courage to take responsibility, be loyal and conscientious in the discharge of duties and jointly take on different challenges and difficulties so that correctional duties can be more effectively implemented. 

 

Division Head Fan Sao Wai obtained his bachelor’s degree in software engineering from the University of Macau. He joined the Correctional Services Bureau in 2005 and has since been engaging in professional work in the IT field. He was the Team Leader of the Information Management Team during 2018 to 2022. Starting from January 2023, he had been serving as the Acting Head of Information and Communications Division. During his service at the Bureau, Division Head Fan has completed multiple professional training programs; he possesses professional expertise and experiences in the IT field and a deep understanding of the operation of the systems in the Bureau. Proactive, motivated and pragmatic at work, he also previously received the collective praise and the group award along with other fellow members of his team.
