The Women’s General Association of Macau Visits Correctional Services Bureau (2020-01-16)

On 16 January 2020 afternoon, a 32-member delegation of the Women’sGeneral Association of Macau, led by its vice-president, Ms. Lei Ioi Hang; thevice-president of its board of directors, Ms. Chao Wai I; and thevice-president of its board of supervisors, Ms. Lo Hoi Man, visited ColoanePrison of the Correctional Services Bureau, learning about the livingconditions of inmates and presenting to them gifts for the Chinese New Year.

 

Since 2002, the Women’s General Association of Macau has beenorganizing its staff, of various disciplines, to visit the Prison during theChinese New Year, as a way to express care and festive greetings to femaleinmates in the Prison, send them a positive message encouraging them to facepost-imprisonment life with optimism.

 

Deputy Director of Correctional Services Bureau Loi Kam Wan,Director of Coloane Prison Ng Ioi On and other members of our management gavethe visitors an introduction to the visit room, beauty parlor and cell area ofthe Female Detention Zone. During their tour of the Zone, female inmates gave aspecial talent performance to thank the Women’s General Association of Macaufor the support and love over the years. The visitors also listened to the twofemale inmates’ personal stories about their resilience and transformations inthe face of adversity. The activity ended with the visitors encouraging the inmates to keep upthe effort to learn new knowledge that would prepare them for socialreintegration in the future.

 

The Correctional Services Bureau thanks the Women’sGeneral Association of Macau for its long-term support toward correctionalservices, and for its visits to the Prison and its organization of diversegroup activities for inmates that aim to guide them back to the correct pathand prepare them for future social reintegration. In the future, the Bureauhopes to continue expanding the scope of its cooperation with the Association,thereby further strengthening the ties between corrections and the community.
