Correctional Services Bureau Holds “Youth vs. Youth” Activity Featuring National Day Card Making Session (2019-06-29)

On 29 June, the Correctional Services Bureau held a “Youth vs. Youth” activity where young volunteers of Bosco Youth Service Network were invited to enter Youth Correctional Institution premises to interact and exchange with juvenile delinquents and send them positive energy. In view of the 70th National Day later this year, the Bureau arranged the young visitors and the juvenile delinquents to make National Day cards together, as a way to express well wishes for the smooth development of our country. Also, the activity served to call on public attention and support to the rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents.

Held in the afternoon on said date, the activity began with the young visitors learning about the daily operation of the Youth Correctional Institution and the living and learning conditions of the juveniles through listening to a briefing on the organizational structure of the Institution and going on a tour of its facilities. Subsequently, the youngsters and the juvenile delinquents had an icebreaker game before singing encouraging songs including “Tough”, “Young Chap” and “Bicycle”. Such relaxed and simple interaction between the young visitors and the juvenile delinquents shortened their distance; the songs served to encourage the juveniles to persevere in achieving their goals.

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, the Bureau arranged the young visitors and the juveniles to make 3D National Day cards together; they divided their work, cutting and pasting materials, and combining pictures and well wishes for our home country, to create National Day cards expressing the joy in anticipation of the anniversary. Lastly, during the sharing session, the juveniles described their living and learning conditions in the Institution, while the young visitors talked about their experiences with community activities and invited the juveniles to participate in the activities organized by the Network in hopes that the juveniles could more smoothly reintegrate into society.

Correctional Services Bureau will continue to launch various youth exchange activities furthering youngsters’ understanding of correctional services. The Bureau also encourages youngsters to actively engage in social affairs, care for people in need, and appeal to the public to support and accept inmates and juvenile delinquents in their rehabilitation and return to society.
