Organized by the Correctional Services Bureau and the Macao Science Center and in association with the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Education and Youth Development Bureau and the Social Welfare Bureau, the Inmates and Juvenile Delinquents’ Handicraft Exhibition 2025 had its opening ceremony on 25 July morning at the Convention Hall of the Macao Science Center. Lasting till 27 July, the exhibition serves as a platform to showcase inmates and juvenile delinquents’ learning achievements and determination to start afresh, raising support and acceptance from the society toward their reintegration.

The theme of the exhibition this year – “Showcasing Talents, Fostering Inclusiveness, Rebuilding Lives” – conveys the message that inmates and juvenile delinquents will be able to undergo self-reformation, unleash their talents and rebuild their lives provided that they have the support and acceptance from different sectors of society. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was jointly officiated by: Prosecutor General of the Public Prosecutions Office Chan Tsz King, Commissioner General of the Unitary Police Service Leong Man Cheong, Director of the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao Wang Qianjin, Vice General Manager of China Legal Service (Macau) of the Ministry of Justice Yin Xuemei, Chief of Office of the Secretary for Security Chang Cheong, Chairman of the Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs of the Municipal Affairs Bureau Chao Wai Ieng, Director of the Correctional Services Bureau Cheng Fong Meng, Deputy Commissioner of Correctional Services of Hong Kong Leung Ka Lun, Deputy Curator of the Macao Science Center Cheong Hung Fat, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Bureau Tang Yuk Wa, Superintendent of the Singapore Prison Service Doris Ng, Assistant Director of Skills Division of Yellow Ribbon Singapore Denise Chow, and Head of Secondary Education Division of the Education and Youth Development Bureau Leong I On. In his address at the ceremony, Director Cheng Fong Meng mentioned that with 2025 marking the commencement of the 6th Macao SAR Government, the entire staff of the Correctional Services Bureau will, under the leadership of the Secretary for Security, dedicate themselves to thoroughly implementing the SAR Government’s philosophy – “Together, We Strive to Innovate with Integrity” – and the policy objectives of the security sector, upholding the three modern policing philosophies of “proactive policing”, “community policing” and “proximity policing”, and effectively performing the correctional duties. In the 4th quarter of last year, the Correctional Services Bureau and Coloane Prison relocated to the new site, which represents a new milestone in the development of correctional services. Following over six months of smooth operations, the Bureau has been continually reviewing the functioning of different facilities, equipment and procedures, striving to optimize its management and enhance work performance. Also, the Bureau has continued to collaborate with relevant government departments, NGOs and business entities, gathering strengths from different sectors of the society to assist inmates and juvenile delinquents in their social reintegration on personal, familial and social levels. Director Cheng expressed gratitude to various sectors of society and the public for their long-term support to and cooperation with Macao’s correctional services as well as conveyed his hope that the public will continue to provide more assistance to inmates and juvenile delinquents, which will enable them to reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives.

The exhibition features a wide range of activities, including the display and sale of over 6,000 products made by inmates or juvenile delinquents during their participation in vocational training programs; electronic display boards are set up at the venue, introducing the various offender rehabilitation services offered by the Correctional Services Bureau, the Education and Youth Development Bureau and the Social Welfare Bureau. In addition, at our invitation, Caritas Macau, the Macau Christian Prison Ministries, the Christian New Life Fellowship in Macau, the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, the General Volunteers Association of Macao, the Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers of Macau, the Noah Family Mutual Aid Association, the University of Saint Joseph, Wynn Care, and the MGM Golden Lion Volunteer Team have set up booth games at the Heart-shaped Tree Square, where Shiny, our care buddy, will have fun with the members of the public.
