The Youth Correctional Institution of the Correctional Services Bureau held on 7 February the New Year’s Resolution Ceremony for year 2024 where juvenile delinquents set new goals and directions for the year ahead and were given encouragement to strive forward.

 

The ceremony began with the juveniles marching into the venue, tidily clad in uniform. In his remarks at the ceremony, Director Cheng Fong Meng urged the juveniles to always remind themselves to cherish the learning opportunities, reflect on the past and look forward to the future, to remember parents and teachers’ teachings, establish the right world views, outlooks on life and values, as well as to learn to be responsible for their own actions, overcome difficulties and setbacks, chase their dreams and realize their life goals.

 

The New Year’s Resolution Ceremony saw the juvenile delinquents solemnly read aloud the oath administered by Director Cheng Fong Meng and Director of the Youth Correctional Institution Yu Pui Lam and put up their personal goals for the year in the sight of the guests and the guardians. Subsequently, the juveniles performed two songs – “Really Love You” and “Half a Life” – to thank their family members and the society for the support and care. The event ended in a warm atmosphere with the presentation of handmade gifts by the juveniles to their family members and the taking of family photos.

 

Among the guests of the event were Judge Shen Li and Judge Leong Mei Ian of the Family and Juvenile Court under the Primary Court; Prosecutor Coordinator Tam I Kuan and Prosecutor Cheang Weng In of the Public Prosecutions Office; Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Bureau Tang Yuk Wa; Secretary General of Caritas Macau Pun Chi Meng; Head of Division of Secondary Education of the Education and Youth Development Bureau Leong I On; Principal of the Escola Primária Oficial Luso-Chinesa “Sir Robert Ho Tung” Ho Im Wa; and Deputy Principal of Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes Ieong Weng Si.
