This year, a total of 52 staff members and 10 subsidiary units with outstanding work performances were commended with the individual award and the group award respectively, 38 staff members were individually praised for their work, and 100 persons received the honorable retirement or long-time service commemorative medal. While giving a review of the Bureau’s work in the year at the ceremony, Director Cheng Fong Meng stated that 2024 had been a year of special significance for the Correctional Services Bureau. With the high attention, strong support and effective planning and direction of the Chief Executive, the leadership of the Secretary for Security, the coordination efforts of the Unitary Police Service, as well as the collective hard work of all participating agencies and units and the entire staff of the Bureau, the construction of the Correctional Services Bureau’s new site was successfully completed and the smooth relocation of Coloane Prison was achieved. On 1 November, the Chief Executive officiated the inauguration ceremony of the Correctional Services Bureau’s new address, officially putting the new site into operation, which marked a new milestone in the correctional work of the Bureau. Furthermore, the Bureau thoroughly implemented the policies of the SAR Government and the security sector, and upholding the three policing philosophies of “proactive policing”, “community policing” and “proximity policing” as its guiding principles, the Bureau satisfactorily accomplished its targets, including effectively performing its statutory duties, continuing to strengthen its prison administration, striving to assist inmates and juvenile delinquents in rebuilding their lives, as well as constantly stepping up its team construction efforts.

Going forward, the entire staff of the Correctional Services Bureau will, in solidarity, continue to dedicate themselves to thoroughly implementing the policy objectives of the SAR Government and the security sector as it persistently pursues innovations on the right path, continually optimizes management and law enforcement mechanisms, relentlessly elevates the professionalism and management standards of its correctional services and guarantees the safety and order in Coloane Prison and the Youth Correctional Institution. Meanwhile, the Bureau will also strive to gather strengths from different sectors of society to assist inmates and juvenile delinquents in their social rehabilitation and reduce the recidivism rate as a way to make due contributions to the long-term peace, prosperity and stability of the Macao SAR.
