“Correctional Services Day” Event – Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Correctional Services Bureau (2025-12-05)
The Correctional Services Bureau held on 4 December the “Correctional Services Day” event in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Bureau, giving a review of the achievements of correctional services in the past decade, outlining future directions, and strengthening communication and connection with relevant government departments, counterparts from outside Macao, and the broader community. During the event, individual staff members and a team with outstanding performance were conferred awards and certificates of appreciation were presented to the partners and the “loving employers” that had provided long-term support to correctional services.
In his address at the event, Director of the Correctional Services Bureau Cheng Fong Meng noted that the Bureau, established on 1 January 2016, had been fully implementing the SAR Government’s policies and the security sector’s policy objectives over the past decade under the strong leadership of the superior authorities – building on past achievements and forging ahead with pioneering spirit, the Bureau persistently improved systems and optimized management, reinforcing team construction, enhancing the quality and efficiency of correctional work, as well as pushed forward the policy of technology-empowered policing, constructing a smart correctional system to ensure the safety of detention facilities. Meanwhile, the Bureau also continually expanded and deepened social collaboration, injecting new impetus into the efforts to facilitate social reintegration, in addition to actively developing e-government, successfully completing the construction of the new prison and the relocation to the new site, and achieving significant results in all areas of work. Looking ahead, the entire staff of the Correctional Services Bureau will, at the new starting point, continue to uphold the Chief Executive’s governance philosophy of “Together, We Strive to Innovate with Integrity” – we will carry forward the legacy and blaze new trails with unity, commitment and integrity as we thoroughly fulfill our correctional duties through scientifically sound and highly efficient measures and make new and greater contributions to Macao’s long-term peace, stability and prosperity.
The “Correctional Services Day” event featured an inspection of the parade of prison guards by the Secretary for Security Chan Tsz King, the presentation of awards to the team and 99 staff members with exceptional work performance in 2025 and commemorative medals to 76 honorably retired or current staff members in recognition of their long-term service. Additionally, 38 partners and “loving employers” were presented with certificates of appreciation as tokens of our gratitude for their continued hands-on support and assistance to the social rehabilitation of the inmates of Coloane Prison and the juveniles in the Youth Correctional Institution. The Prison’s Tactical Response Unit and Riot Control Unit also conducted a riot control and crowd management demonstration in the event venue, fully showcasing prison guards’ rigorous training and emergency response capabilities.
