Correctional Services Bureau Hosts Chinese New Year Party for Inmates to Showcase Talents as They Welcome the New Spring (2026-02-02)
As it is time to send away the Year of the Snake and welcome the Year of the Horse, the Chinese New Year Party for Inmates is once again jointly held by the Correctional Services Bureau and Caritas Macau during 2 to 5 February at Coloane Prison. Inmates are arranged to attend the party in groups, and the aim of the party is to enable inmates to experience the support and warmth from society amid the festive atmosphere.
The opening ceremony of the party was held on 2 February morning. To mark the official start of the Chinese New Year Party, an eye-dotting ceremony was jointly officiated by Commissioner General of the Unitary Police Service Leong Man Cheong, Director of the Correctional Services Bureau Cheng Fong Meng, and Secretary General of Caritas Macau Paul Pun Chi Meng. The series of performances prepared and given by inmates then followed, including a lion dance, a Chinese New Year celebratory play, a fan dance, a Chinese martial arts demonstration, and performances of songs. The inmates’ display of talents captivated the audience, earning rounds of enthusiastic applause. The first session of the party came to a successful conclusion during inmates’ inspirational chorus of a song.
Through the party, the Correctional Services Bureau sought to enable inmates to experience the care and support from society and provide an opportunity for inmates to showcase their talents and their achievements from their diligent learning efforts. It was also hoped that the rehearsal and performance process could allow inmates to gain new perspectives, heighten their personal sense of accomplishment, foster positive values and strengthen their confidence in rejoining society and returning to the right path. The Correctional Services Bureau would like to take this opportunity to thank Caritas Macau for sponsoring the event and for their long-term support to the efforts to facilitate inmates’ social reintegration.
Guests who attended this event also included: Director General of the Macao Customs Adriano Marques Ho; Director of the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government Wang Qianjin; General Manager of China Legal Service (Macau) Liu Fuchen; members of the Security Forces and Departments Discipline Supervision Committee, leaders and management personnel of related government departments, and representatives from non-profit organizations and businesses.
