Correctional Services Bureau Holds New Year’s Resolution Ceremony for Juvenile Delinquents (2026-02-13)

The Youth Correctional Institution of the Correctional Services Bureau held on 13 February the New Year’s Resolution Ceremony for year 2026, which saw the juveniles in its facilities set new goals for the year ahead and gain the encouragement to work hard to realize the goals.

The ceremony began with the juveniles, clad in uniform, marching into the venue in an orderly manner. In his remarks at the ceremony, Director Cheng Fong Meng stated that the juveniles, by their own efforts as well as receiving the care and support from the society, government and family members, have made significant advancement in self-discipline, academic performance and professional skills in the past year. For this, Director Cheng sincerely thanked all parties for their long-term support of our rehabilitation work and for their care and love for the juveniles, and fully acknowledged the juveniles’ achievements as well. The Director also put forward his “three expectations” to the juveniles: first, the juveniles should abide by the rules of the Institution, reflect on their past and correct their mistakes, cultivate good moral character and establish correct values; second, the juveniles should be grateful, study diligently for self-improvements, and cherish the guidance and care of parents, teachers and staff so as to make good preparations for reintegrating into the society in the future; third, the juveniles should put their aspirations into action and make good use of their youth. The Director added that the mistakes in the past cannot define one’s life, and the choices in the future are what truly matter. As long as the juveniles remain steadfast in the belief of doing good, are courageous in correcting mistakes, and persevere in pursuing dreams, they will surely become the persons who contribute to their family and society in a good and responsible way.

In the sight of guests, teachers and family members, the juveniles solemnly read aloud the oath administered by Director Cheng Fong Meng and Director of the Youth Correctional Institution Yu Pui Lam; the juveniles then put up their personal goals for the year ahead on the new year’s resolution board, displaying their determination and confidence to realize their goals. Also, Director Cheng Fong Meng and Deputy Director Lei Iat Meng presented awards to the winners of “Inspirational Composition Contest”, encouraging award-winning juveniles to continue striving for advancement.

The juveniles then performed a lion dance and the songs “Tourbillon” and “Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies”, conveying their gratitude to their family members and the guests. After the ceremony, the Youth Correctional Institution also organized a pre-Chinese New Year reunion lunch for the juveniles and their family members. It was a touching moment as the juveniles presented gifts they had personally handmade to their family members during the lunch. The Correctional Services Bureau would like to thank Caritas Macau for sponsoring this Chinese New Year event and for their long-term support to our social rehabilitation services.

Other guests of the event included: from the Family and Juvenile Court under the Primary Court – Judge Chang Sin I and Judge Chan Cheok Kei; from the Public Prosecutions Office – Prosecutor Coordinator Tam I Kuan and Prosecutor Cheang Weng In; from Caritas Macau – Secretary General Paul Pun Chi Meng; from the Social Welfare Bureau – Deputy Director Tang Yuk Wa; from the Education and Youth Development Bureau – Head of the Division of Continuing Education Chan Chak In; from Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes – Deputy Principal Chow Yan Yan, as well as representatives from a number of non-profit associations and organizations.
