Organized by the Correctional Services Bureau and the Macao Science Center and in association with the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Education and Youth Development Bureau and the Social Welfare Bureau, the Inmates and Juvenile Delinquents’ Handicraft Exhibition 2026 had its opening ceremony on 4 September morning at the Convention Hall of the Macao Science Center. Lasting until 6 September, the exhibition is intended to serve as a platform to showcase the achievements from inmates and juvenile delinquents’ diligent learning efforts so that the society can witness their determination to self-reform, and support and acceptance toward their social reintegration can be raised.
 

The ribbon-cutting ceremony of the exhibition was jointly officiated by Secretary for Security Chan Tsz King, Prosecutor General of the Public Prosecutions Office Tong Hio Fong, Director of the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao Wang Qianjin, Commissioner General of the Unitary Police Service Leong Man Cheong, Director General of the Bureau of Prison Administration of the Ministry of Justice Fan Lübing, Curator of the Macao Science Center Sio Hon Pan and Acting Director of the Correctional Services Bureau Lei Chong Man. Among the other attendees of the ceremony were government department representatives including Chairman of the Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs Chao Wai Ieng, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Bureau Tang Yuk Wa, representatives of the relevant departments of the Ministry of Justice, leaders and management personnel of the security departments, judges and prosecutors, members of the Macao Security Forces and Departments Discipline Supervision Committee, representatives of our counterparts from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as representatives from Macao’s local community associations, schools, business entities, and the “loving employers”.
 

In his address at the ceremony, Acting Director Lei Chong Man stated that with this year marking the beginning of our country’s “15th Five-Year Plan” and Macao’s “Third Five-Year Development Plan”, all personnel of the Correctional Services Bureau, under the strong leadership of the Secretariat for Security, will thoroughly follow the Chief Executive’s policy direction of “Together, We Strive to Innovate with Integrity” and adhere to the guiding principle of “Protecting the Country and Safeguarding Macao through Loyal and Dedicated Service” in the effective fulfillment of correctional duties – facilitating the self-reform and social reintegration of inmates and juvenile delinquents through punitive and educational supervisory measures and diverse residential commitment services. He then introduced the Bureau’s ongoing efforts to support inmates and juvenile delinquents in their social reintegration on the personal, familial and social levels, before emphasizing that this year’s exhibition – retaining the theme “Showcasing Talents, Fostering Inclusiveness, Rebuilding Lives” – aims to celebrate inmates and juvenile delinquents’ learning achievements, promote crime prevention, and cultivate a spirit of care and inclusiveness. He also expressed gratitude to all sectors of society, our correctional colleagues, and the public for their continued support and cooperation toward Macao’s correctional work, and looked forward to society’s continued acceptance and support for inmates and juvenile delinquents in rebuilding their lives.
 

The exhibition this year is packed with a wide variety of activities. At the exhibition, over 6,000 pieces of handicrafts made by inmates or juvenile delinquents during their vocational training will be displayed and sold; electronic display boards are installed, introducing the different offender rehabilitation services offered by the Correctional Services Bureau, the Social Welfare Bureau, and the Education and Youth Development Bureau; a parent-child DIY area for the printmaking technique of rubbing, an intangible cultural heritage, is also prepared in collaboration with the Macao Federation of Trade Unions. In addition, at our invitation, the Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers of Macau, Caritas Macau, the Macau Christian Prison Ministries, the Christian New Life Fellowship in Macau, the General Volunteers Association of Macao, the Noah Family Mutual Aid Association, the University of Saint Joseph, the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, MGM Macau and Wynn Care set up game booths in the Heart-shaped Tree Square outside the venue alongside the implementers of the event. Shiny, our care buddy, is also at the venue, spending quality time together with members of the public.
 

This year’s exhibition will be held on 4 to 6 September. The opening times will be from 13:00 to 18:00 on 4 September and 10:00 to 18:00 on 5 and 6 September. Admission to the exhibition is free. Also, with the booth game point cards or the receipts of the purchases made on site, visitors will be eligible to redeem free entry tickets to the Exhibition Center of the Macao Science Center. All members of the public are welcome for a visit to the exhibition and join us in supporting inmates and juvenile delinquents in their journey toward a new life, and in building a caring and inclusive society.
