1. Types of Visit and Relevant Regulations

  • Juveniles housed in the Youth Correctional Institution enjoy the right to visits from family and friends. Individuals wishing to visit a juvenile can submit an application to the Institution.
  • To accommodate special situations or other urgent needs, the Youth Correctional Institution offers four types of visit services, namely, (1) first visit, (2) regular visit, (3) special visit and (4) video visit. The application procedures and details concerning the mentioned types of visit are as follows:

First Visit

  • The first visit lasts one hour.
  • Individuals wishing to pay the first visit can submit an application to the Institution. It is recommended to dial (853) 2888 2439 within office hours for enquiries.

Regular Visit

  • Juveniles in the Institution enjoy time of visit for no less than one hour per week.
  • Individuals wishing to visit a juvenile at the Institution can submit an application to the Institution. After the Permit for Visiting a Housed Juvenile is issued, they can bring their valid identification document and the Permit to visit the juvenile within a designated schedule.

Special Visit

  • If an urgent or a special circumstance has rendered it a must to meet with a juvenile at the Youth Correctional Institution outside the visit period designated by the Institution, visitors can apply for a “special visit” to the Institution.
  • The special visit lasts one hour.

Video Visit

  • The launch of the service of video visit to a juvenile delinquent aims to enable elderly people, expectant mothers, people with limited mobility or disabilities to speak to their family member / friend residing in the Youth Correctional Institution without having to travel a long way there.
  • Individuals wishing to pay a video visit to a family or friend in the Youth Correctional Institution can submit an application to the Institution. After the application is approved, they can proceed to the Correctional Services Bureau Service and Information Centre, situated on the Macao Peninsula, and speak to their family or friend residing in the Institution via the video conference system for a period of one hour.

2. Procedures and Regulations for Visit

  • First Visit, Regular Visit and Special Visit
    • Upon arrival at the Institution, individuals authorized for visit need to present their valid ID (for regular visit, the Permit for Visiting a Housed Juvenile also has to be presented) for verification of identity.
    • Before the visit, all visitors have to store all personal belongings in the locker and temporarily keep the locker key.
    • During the visit period, the juvenile can be simultaneouslyvisited by up to 5 visitors.
  • Video Visit

    • Upon arrival at the Correctional Services Bureau Service and Information Centre, individuals authorized for visit need to present their valid ID for verification of identity.
    • Before the video visit, all visitors have to store all personal belongings in the locker and temporarily keep the locker key.
    • A staff member of the Youth Correctional Institution will keep the juvenile delinquent company during the entire video visit. Any situation endangering the safety and order of or posing negative impact on the Youth Correctional Institution will result in the immediate suspension of the visit.
    • During the video visit period, the juvenile can be simultaneouslyvisited by no more than 3 visitors.

 

3. Important Notes for Delivery of Items

  • During visit sessions, visitors can deliver items to the juveniles in accordance with the regulations.
  • Visitors must present the items brought in for examination and registration by the Institution staff, and must sign for confirmation afterwards.
  • Should there be any dispute during the process of item delivery, the decisions made based on results of the Institution’s security checks shall be final.

 

4. Important Notes

  • Visitors must be the juveniles’ lineal relatives, guardians, siblings or entities actually taking care of the juveniles.
  • A juvenile’s sibling under 16 can only pay visits when accompanied by a parent, guardian or entity actually taking care of the juvenile.
  • A juvenile can be visited by up to 5 peoplesimultaneously within the visit period.
